Move over Television… These Comics are the new face of entertainment!

All those who were born in the 80’s and grew up in the 90’s, would know for a fact what an absolute symbol of status a color television set was… And the type of shows we used to have back in the day made it a matter of pride to own one in your own house! The kids these days will never know what television was to us! The good old “Afternoon Transmission” on Doordarshan was something to look out for in every kids life. Television then emerged as not only a medium of entertainment but also a source of addressing issues, which were otherwise a taboo or social stigma. The shows were great! Shanti (The first daily soap), Alpviram, Chandrakanta (Irrfan Khan’s Launchpad), Surabhi, Humlog, Buniyaad, Malgudi Days, Circus (SRK’s start)… I can go on and on with the list! But then, something happened… a particular Kapoor decided to give cancer to the Indian television! So was born the age of the Saas-Bahu soaps and extravagant use of K’s in the nomenclature. Homemakers were

hopmotion.com Bollywood, as we know it, has always been fond of star kids and established superstars. The entry to an outsider has always been a tough question mark when it comes to Bollywood. However, speaking about this somehow makes you a blind follower of Kangana Ranaut… And also makes her a Psychopath! Well, at the risk of being tagged a blind follower of Kangana and adding to her media created mental illness, I would like to say I still believe what she says. No I never tried my luck with Bollywood… so it is definitely not a case of sour grapes! But I have this weird habit of calling a spade a spade. Gets me in trouble a lot of times, but can’t help it… It’s some sort of a mental illness I guess. I will believe nepotism does not exist only when I see a star kid launched by Anurag Kashyap!  But in this dark planet of stars-kids and non-nepotistic launches, there is a ray of hope. There are some actors who come from humble beginnings and are doing aa great job. You lo

If Rani Padmawati was alive today, she would have killed herself again…

youtube.com Ok, so let me get this straight! A filmmaker, who is the master of his craft, painstakingly makes a period saga and an epic. He puts his blood and soul in this! He ropes in two of the best actors in the country right now, Ranveer and Deepika, to play two most important characters. Ranveer plays Alauddin Khilji and Deepika plays Rani Padmawati… The movie is still not out… No one has seen it… But a group of fringe elements decides already that they are the sole protectors of the Rajput History! So, without seeing a single frame of the movie, they decide that it is distortion of facts and stage protests against it. Now I understand being protective of your culture. But being “ANTARYAAMI”… That’s another level altogether. How on earth does the KARNI SENA know that Bhansali has distorted facts? What facts are they referring to that they feel have been distorted? What is it that these people are trying to protect or hide? I wanted to

The biggest Myth in Bollywood : The 100 crore club…

youtube.com Remember the good old times when we bought tickets in “BLACK” from the goons near the theatres? Bigger the movie, higher the cost. The Rate of these tickets in black was sometimes even 100 times the actual cost! I still remember I bought the tickets for Rangeela back in 1995 for a freaking 400 Rs! The actual cost was Rs. 60 at the Eros theatre, Churchgate, Mumbai… At the age of 12, Rs 400 was a pretty huge amount back in 1995!! But those were the good old days! The single screen era. Every penny spent on the tickets was worth it… Cut to 2017… Gone are the days of single screen theatres. We now live in the age of multiplexes. 7 screens in a single theatre. And guess what, there is no black ticketing here. You know why? Because the cost of the tickets is freaking steep. I recently saw Golmaal 4 (Still wondering why), and that is when I decided to write this. I feel the people selling tickets in black those days were better movie critics. They knew exactly whi
